Community
Before the closures of Covid-19, I was working in a kindergarten classroom in the Brookline Public Schools. In addition to working in a kindergarten classroom, I was co-writing curriculum and teaching a STEM Saturday Enrichment Program for (BEEP) Brookline Early Education Program. The mission of STEM Saturday is to provide STEM learning opportunities to Brookline pre-school and pre-k children. Our goal is to facilitate exploration between caregivers and their children. Our hope is that families leave inspired to engage in STEM education at home, with resources that are available at home. STEM Saturdays are funded by a grant from the Department of Early Education and Care; the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant.
So, what happens now that we're all practicing social distancing?
Why, we offer STEM Saturday virtually of course! But what about all the other kids who aren't able to attend Virtual STEM Saturday? Families who are not available at a specific time, or who aren't eligible to attend... what about them?
Well, this website is my attempt to help during these unprecedented times. I am in a unique position as an Early Childhood educator and a mom (stay-at-home for 4 years) to offer support and encouragement to the community. My hope is that families of preschoolers, pre-k kids, kindergartners, and even grade school children will be able to access STEM activities from the comfort of their homes. You don't need fancy equipment or supplies to engage and have fun with STEM!
